Start at the Controller
If one zone is dead but the others run, the problem is almost never the pipe. Check the controller first — a lost program after a power blip, a tripped station, or a bad connection at the terminal is common, especially after our summer storms. Try running that zone manually; if it still won't fire, the issue is downstream.
The Usual Culprits
From there it's usually one of a few things: a failed valve solenoid, a nicked or corroded low-voltage wire, or a stuck valve diaphragm clogged by our hard-water grit. Less often it's a cut wire from a fence post or tree root. These are quick fixes for someone who does them all week, but they're easy to misdiagnose from the surface.
